I'm not the best at updating my family blog, so here's a little update from my personal life. This morning we had the pleasure of having Mr. Taylor D. over to play. Audrey loves this boy. Her squeals are so high-pitched that I'm worried the windows could shatter. These two have been paling around for over a year now, and it's been amazing watching them (as well as Audrey's other little friends) grow right before my very eyes.

Audrey will be 2 years old in just over 2 months -- I know it is very cliche, but I cannot believe how quickly she is growing and how smart this little girl is. If you know my daughter, consider yourself lucky. She is truly one of a kind (the smart, cute, funny, dancing, wiggly, caring, sweet, opinionated, book-worm, gentle, singing, and lovable kind.)

Anthony is a skilled and friendly pharmacist by day, and lean-mean Jiu-Jitsu fighting machine by night (and on weekends when he's not working). Today I had the pleasure to check out the SubLeague Qualifier event #1 (and to see my dear friend in action). I was very impressed with the level of strength and agility that is required to compete in this type of event. Not to my surprise, Anthony dominated his rounds, taking home the 1st place medal within his class (which, mind you, is 1 class above his designated weight class). Well-played, my friend.

Fitness is fun again!

So, many of you know that I have become kind of a fitness junkie. I blame CrossFit Hillsboro. Owners/Trainers Chuck and Shelly Gonzales gave me the opprotunity to capture 'a day in the life' at their studio for their upcoming new website. Since having started CrossFit back in August, not only am I healthier, more fit, and can fit into those jeans that I never dreamed I would ever wear, I feel so much more enthusiastic about life in general. The intense/grueling, yet gratifying workouts make the rest of the day to day challenges seem achievable (and they are). My thanks to Chuck, Shelly, Mike, Chantal, Lindsay and the rest of 'the cult'. You guys are amazing.

This is Noah -- he is a 18 months old. Unlike my 18 month-old daughter, Noah loves to run around outside, find sticks, and play in the dirt (maybe this is just a boy thing?) Noah keeps his parents and dog busy, with smiles on their faces. Noah's toy collection includes such classics as the fisher-price record player, old school Sesame Street characters, and other toys that I once had many years ago (and was tempted to play with). A HUGE 'thank-you' to all of the beautiful and fun ladies who joined Laura of elle images and I for our 1st annual Boudoir @ The Nines this past weekend. Cousins!

Meet the Gowing/Buerkle cousins -- a very fun group. Our session took place at Lewisville Park in Battleground, WA. Good thing we had umbrellas (and I had a ziplock bag to cover my camera with)! The rain eventually tapered off and we were able to explore this beautiful area for some good shots. I highly recommend Lewisville Park -- beautiful scenery, picnic areas, trails, creeks, bridges -- a nice representation of the Pacific Northwest. Meet Baby Owen, aka "Baby O". Owen was born last month, on the first day of Becky's maternity leave (good timing, Owen!) Becky and Mark couldn't be more thrilled to be parents; and both are natural pros when it comes to parenting. Long story short, I know Becky through my former employer, and she is one of the kindest and most warm-hearted people I know. The Zoo

After a photo session today, my family and I took a spontaneous trip to the Oregon Zoo. Tip: Go to the zoo on a Sunday, an hour or so before closing, no one is there -- and all the animals are out. Here's some fun shots I got today; very impressed with the new Predators exhibit! My daughter liked any exhibit featuring water. I myself like the orangutans. What's your favorite?

Kids are the best -- really, they are. I didn't really quite 'get it' until I had my own. The Nemer children were a delight to work with today. Sandy, their mom, is so relaxed and easy going around them that they were just that -- thus making my job an easy one. This last shot posted here is perhaps my favorite photo I've taken thus far. While it may appear to be 'chaotic' to some, it takes being a mom to know that, indeed, all is right with the world. Thank you, Nemer Family, for making my Tuesday morning an enjoyable one!

Trash the Dress (kind of)

You remember Laura -- we met up a few weeks back for a 'trash the dress'/sassy boudoir session (although I LOVE my photos that LW took of me, I will spare you and again not post those) :)

This was the one day we actually wanted it to rain -- but, it didn't really do that. We perused the side streets of East Burnside for some 'artsy/urban/fug' shots -- very fun! Laura is loving the married life and her happiness makes me smile. Thanks, L-dub!

You Better WORK!

Well, I survived my first vacation without my little one -- granted it was only 3 days, but I missed her a lot. I ventured to Northern California with the hubs who was there for business. We stayed a night in San Francisco and then met up with my dear old college roomie, Natalie, in Sacramento.

Natalie and her boyfriend, Ryan, make a pretty great pair. The four of us drove up to the cute town of Nevada City, CA where I got some shots of these two love-birds. I was debating putting up some photos from Natalie and my 'Top Model' photo-shoot days (this is what we did when we didn't feel like studying), but made the wise decision not to. Thanks, Nat Attack 2009 and Ryan! RuPaul would be proud.

Sweet Seniors

Yesterday I had the privilege to shoot 2 senior sessions with 2 pretty sweet (as in nice and RAD) girls. Katie, pictured above, is as pretty down to earth as they come. She hopes to study English as well as Journalism when she starts college next year... she has big hopes to get into one Ivy League school in particular, I have no doubt that she'll get in.

Tashialynn, photographed below, is a senior here in Hillsboro and enjoys working on the year-book committee and stays busy with other extracurricular activities and clubs. She is looking forward to attending PCC next year and being close to family and friends. Tashialynn is an extremely kind and thankful person (much like her mother, whom I used to work with).

'It's Beginning to look a lot like Christmas'

Meet Skyler. Volleyballer, Chearleader, and a huge fan of Christmas songs (all year round). Skyler is a freshman in high school and is quite the busy girl. For our photo shoot last September, we tromped around the Pearl District (Tanner Springs and Jamison Square Parks) and then headed over to the St. John's Bridge. Little did we know that the Portland Pirate Festival was taking place, but we managed to get faux pegged-legs out of the shots. Skyler is all around awesome -- and she's a great baby-sitter! My thanks to Skyler, and her mom, Shawn, for such a fun outing :)

Lauren and Abe are expecting their first this December -- a girl! For our session, we took a nice stroll near the water at Rood Bridge Park in Hillsboro, Oregon. The fall colors and light were amazing and made Lauren glow even more. During our 1+ hours together, I could sense the overwhelming love and appreciation that this couple has for one another -- and it's amazing to think just how much that love multiplies when 2 becomes 3 (and 4, and 5+ for many families). Laura and Greg tied the knot yesterday on 9.19.09 (National Talk Like a Pirate Day, fyi). Here is just a glimpse of some of the first images captured of this fun celebration. Laura is a dear friend of mine and fellow photographer (you can find her site, and others, under 'Recommended Links'). Laura and Greg's wedding marked my first wedding I have photographed solo. It went extremely well! Not sure I'm ready to dedicate my summer weekends to shoot weddings, but needless to say, it was quite enjoyable and fun to experience 'the big day' behind the camera. Anne and Margaret became the proud parents to Baxter and Bella earlier this summer. As puppies, Baxter and Bella are pretty energetic corgi siblings (i.e. hard to keep still in front of camera). This photo shoot was taken at Columbia Park near the University of Portland Campus. A handful of leaves are starting to change color, with quite a few leaves already on the ground. Here's some snapshots taken at the celebration of Mr. Taylor Rogers' 3rd Birthday Party. Taylor had an excellent time celebrating with family and friends at Magnolia Park in Hillsboro. The weather was hovering around 100 degrees, but the kids managed to keep cool with the splash fountain and sno-cone machine (a couple of home-made cupcakes didn't hurt either). It's always kind of weird meeting the kids of people you knew since Elementary School -- my friends probably feel the same way about me. Phoebie is the daughter of an old childhood friend and a spitting image of her mommy, Melissa. Phoebie and her little cousin, Raelie, had a fun time at the park for their photo shoot last month. They kept eyeing the swings during our session -- my favorite photo from the day captures their anticipated excitement of FINALLY being able to quit posing and start playing.

"I Do": 50 Years Later

Larry and Charlet have been married for 50 years now -- their anniversary celebration took place at the Verboort Gun Club with family and friends this past month. The pot-luck style party, with a live country band, dancing, and story-telling was an event that came from the heart. Larry and Charlet are about as cute as they get. Charlet wrote, composed and sang a song for Larry, which just about brought me to tears (not very professional!) As the "photographer lady", I was welcomed with hugs and warm smiles all around. A very sweet gathering, glad to have been a part of it :)

Brandon and Ashley were married last November. Late last month, they celebrated their nuptials party-style at a local golf club among their friends and family. I was honored to document their special day and had a fun time in doing so -- coincidentally running into old friends, many of which I haven't seen since my dorky high-school days. Now finishing her second year of grad school in veterinary medicine, and Aaron working in the health care industry, they begin to plan their wedding for Summer 2010. It now reminds me of the jeans I had to wear for about 7 months and just about burned after having my daughter (yes, I kept them in the event kidlet #2 decides to show up anytime soon). A few weeks ago I had the privilege to photograph the Gabel family, who will soon be expecting their newest family member in a month or so now. These photos are now up under the 'Motherhood' tab on my main site. I will be doing another mama-to-be shoot this weekend that I'm very excited about. (M-word) shots are a great way in documenting the life story of the baby before he/she has yet to arrive! Happy Mother's Day to both pregos and non-pregos out there :)

Hi Readers! As you can see I've updated the look to my photo blog. I like the fresh and simple look and I hope you do as well. I can't believe the babies are now turning ONE. We celebrated Lillian's birthday on Sunday and had a wonderful time. The pictures I took of her and her cake didn't turn out all that well because I was tearing up behind the camera...
As you can see, a day of food, cake, presents and company is enough to wear anyone out. Happy 1st Birthday sweet Lillian!

Met up with my dear childhood friend, Jamie, and her family for some photos today. Like Dan and I, Jamie and her husband, Matt, have been together since high-school and have a sweet little girl, Jordan. They will be welcoming their newest addition, a boy, in June. Jamie and I go way back and used to take swimming lessons together before our Kindergarten days. Dan and Matt played middle school basketball together. And now here we are with babies and more on the way! Congrats Jamie, Matt and soon-to-be big sister, Jordan!

Fun in Photoshop

Ok, well, I don't have Photoshop-Photoshop, just the Elements... someday, my friends! Anyway, I was dinking around with some photos and liked this cool old-school effect. It's really easy too: In the Enhance Tab, Select Adjust Color -- Color Variations. Once the Color Variation window pops up, select Shadows on the far left and adjust the color intensity for the full amount (I did a decrease in blue for the first photo, and an increase in red for the second photo pictured). After that, select the Old Photo effect tool (in the Full edit tab) and adjust the opacity to your liking (these are at about 40%). Kinda cool, huh?

Today I met up with the Sneed-Ferris Family at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival. This was my first time to the festival, and it was quite breathtaking actually. Before Audrey had her allergic spout, I was able to get some good shots in of Crystal, Dustin and their son, Evan. Crystal is a friend and former co-worker of mine. I regret that we had to call it quits early, but Audrey appreciated getting back in the car and away from the tulips. A fun, albeit short, trip out to Woodburn!

I'm super excited that I will get a lot of practice time in this weekend! It's been a long week as many of you know, and I'm looking forward to use my big ball of energy behind the camera. Tomorrow I will be shooting some modern 'bourdoir' photos for some close friends -- that should be fun -- hopefully I'll be able to post up some of them :) And on Saturday, depending on weather, I'll be taking photos of the Ewell family and their little baby girl, Isabela (she is 1 month younger than Aud). Also on Saturday I will be shooting my first wedding alongside Laura out in Sherwood. Busy weekend indeed! Check back later on to see the results, and your comments/feedback is always appreciated :)

Interesting article that Dan, my husband, shared with me last summer. At this point, I don't really consider Julie Flood Photography a full-on business, but more of a side project to my full-time job as being a Mom. I love taking photos of my daughter, Audrey, and have been told that I have a good eye and good photo composition.
